Instructional Technology & Design

Who We Are:

The Instructional Technology and Design Office (ITD) is here to help bridge the gap between the learner and technology in the classroom setting. The guiding ITD philosophy is that the technology you use should be as simple and stable as possible so that you can focus on your studies. While we can help you learn more and go further with your interest in computing, our primary goal is to eliminate any barrier that the instructional technology may present.

What We Do:

The Instructional Technology and Design Office primarily provides training and support for course-related activities; in addition, we provide many other services for the iSchool community:

Course management support

Our office supports Moodle, a course management system implemented at the School in 2007. It contains course documents, assignments, and communications from your instructors. We also have a have several community forums on Moodle that support job placement, student groups, and local blogs. More information about how to use Moodle can be found at our Moodle 101 Tutorial (login required).

Web conferencing support

We use Blackboard Collaborate web conferencing software for our online courses and events, including the Leep MSLIS and MSIM programs.  Blackboard Collaborate allows synchronous sessions for students using audio, video, and whiteboard capabilities. For more information about Blackboard Collaborate and how this technology empowers class participation, see our Blackboard Collaborate ULTA Tutorial (login required).

Resources for instructors

Our office works with instructors to set up course content and leverage new (and old) technologies for better and more effective teaching. Instructors can find a full list of School and University resources at our course management support section.  We are happy to meet with instructors one on one for training and are your support team if you have questions, problems or need support during the semester.

Workshops, tutorials, and other resources for students

Our office provides training, both in person and online, for School-supported technologies such as Moodle, Blackboard Collaborate, and Confluence Wiki. We also offer training and documentation on other technologies that you may need for your coursework or in your professional life after graduation. Past workshops include Basic HTML Coding, Scalar, Twitter for Libraries, Digital Storytelling, and much more!

For more information, please view the main Moodle page (login required) and the resources linked from there .
