Please join us on March 8, 12:00pm - 1:00pm, in GSLIS 242 for a brown bag discussion with UIUC's own Frances Jacobson Harris and Lisa Janicke Hinchliffe. Please read their white paper Digital Literacy, Libraries and Public Policy for the ALA Digital Literacy Task Force in preparation for the discussion.
The report provides an overview of digital literacy in school, public, and academic libraries; looks at the ways they support digital literacy for their users; and provides an overview of the current digital literacy policy context, including digital inclusion, education and lifelong learning, and workforce development. The Task Force is now working to develop a set of recommendations for the library community, policy makers, and potential funders to continue and expand libraries' engagement and leadership with digital literacy. Lisa and Frances welcome discussion about the report as well as input on the recommendations.
More information is available at the Inclusions and Exclusions Moodle page. Please direct any questions to sweeney6 [at] illinois.edu (Miriam Sweeney) or slirish [at] illinois.edu (Sharon Irish).
