GSLIS Assistant Professor Carol Tilley has been appointed to the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Common Core Implementation Assistance Task Force. She will serve on the task force for one year.

“School libraries and the librarians who work in them are integral parts of the K-12 education community. The near-universal adoption of the Common Core State Standards in the United States presents new challenges and opportunities for everyone in this community,” said Tilley. “I look forward to working with this task force to find innovative, pragmatic resources and strategies that school librarians can use to support students, teachers, administrators, and parents as they implement the Common Core.”

The charge for the task force is:

To research and develop recommendations and identify existing AASL resources and link to such resources as well as identify additional resources and activities for AASL members on how to support implementation of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in their states and local communities including collaborative efforts with other divisions, educational organizations and agencies.

Tilley’s research areas include the history of youth services librarianship, children's print culture, information inquiry and instruction in school libraries, information seeking and use, and media literacy. At GSLIS she teaches courses on youth services librarianship, media literacy for youth, and comics.
