MS/IM Seminar Series: Bashir & Gabb

The MSIM Seminar Series is open to all students at the iSchool and features a variety of speakers around topics of relevance to data analytics. The September 16 session will feature talks by Assistant Professor Masooda Bashir and doctoral candidate Henry Gabb.

Abstract for Bashir's talk: As the amount of digital information around us continues to increase by leaps and bounds, and our lives increasingly depend on technology, issues of trust, privacy, and security in this digital ecosystem are also becoming increasingly important. Bashir’s research interests lie at the interface of IT, psychology, and society, especially how privacy, security, and trust intersect from a psychological point of view with information technology.

Abstract for Gabb's talk, "Information Management Opportunities in the Computer Industry": Data science and analytics are driving hardware sales across the computer industry. However, data collection and storage cost money. What drives this investment? Do effective data handling and analytics provide real competitive advantage? If so, can you deliver this advantage to an employer? Can you prepare an employer for the Next Big Thing?
