CIRSS Seminar: Shigeo Sugimoto

In his talk, "Metadata Models and Schemas for Sharing non-Conventional Information Resources – Manga, Disaster Archives and Metadata Schemas," Dr. Shigeo Sugimoto will provide an overview of several metadata-centric projects at his laboratory at the University of Tsukuba and discuss issues and lessons learned in the projects. Topics include underlying metadata models, metadata for Manga (Japanese comics), metadata-based enhancement of Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami archives, and the longevity of metadata and metadata schema.
 
Shigeo Sugimoto is a professor of library, information and media science at the University of Tsukuba, Japan. He received his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees from the Department of Information Science, Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University in 1977, 1979 and 1985, respectively. He has been actively involved in digital library and metadata research communities since the 1990s. He is a member of the steering committees of ICADL, JCDL, and iPRES, and is a member of governing board of DCMI.
