IS 530 Collection Development

Examines issues affecting the development and management of collections for academic, public, special, and school libraries: collection development policies, collection assessment, the marketplace, publishing, legal issues, and budget allocation; document delivery; collaboration and cooperation.

Learning objectives

  • Students will build and evaluate a collection of materials on a topic within different constraints and scenarios
  • Students will be able to evaluate a collection development policy
  • Students will explain and apply deselection criteria and processes
