CCB Speaker Series: The Data-Sitters Club
Lee Skallerup Bessette, Katia Bowers, Maria Cecire, Quinn Dombrowski, Anouk Lang, and Roopika Risam, will present “Tropes and Tribulations: Exploring Computational Text Analysis with the Data-Sitters Club” as part of The Center for Children's Books (CCB) 2020-2021 Speaker Series.
Bio: The Data-Sitters Club—Lee Skallerup Bessette, Katia Bowers, Maria Cecire, Quinn Dombrowski, Anouk Lang, and Roopika Risam—is a feminist digital humanities group supported by the Stanford Literary Lab. The Data-Sitters has faculty or staff positions at universities in the US, UK, and Canada, working in fields including children’s literature, postcolonial digital humanities, Russian literature, and digital pedagogy. The group applies digital humanities tools to Ann M. Martin’s “The Baby-Sitters Club” series (published by Scholastic between 1986-2000), exploring the opportunities and limits of these methods and documenting their process for others to learn from.
