The award is given annually by the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and cosponsored by Sage, a global academic publisher of books, journals, and library resources.

A reception to honor the New College of Florida Defenders will take place during the American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Chicago, Illinois.
