Professional Pathways Spring Series: Melanie Emerson

This professional development event is going to be set up as a semi-formal conversation with students who are interested in exploring different pathways through library and information science!
Melanie Emerson is the Dean of the Library + Special Collections at the School of the Art Institution of Chicago. She oversees the Library and all special collections, including the Joan Flasch Artists' Book Collection, the Roger Brown Study Collection, the Fashion Resource Center, the Textile Resource Center, and the Video Data Bank. She previously held positions at the Ricker Library of Architecture and Art at the University of Illinois, the Ryerson and Burnham Libraries at the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Detroit Institute of Arts Library and Archives. Emerson holds an MA in Art History from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, an MLIS with a concentration in Archives and Special Collections, and a BA in Art History from Wayne State University. She currently serves as the President of the Art Libraries Society of North America (ARLIS/NA).
Professional Pathways invites a series of working professionals across library and information science to share their journey into their careers and experiences in the field! This is a career development series where students can understand the current professional landscape, and is not intended to be a career fair or employment seeking opportunity. The speakers cover a wide range of roles within library and information science, as well as information management, and as such this event is open to ALL iSchool students.
