Narcan Training at the iSchool
While opioid use and overdoses continue to be at epidemic proportions throughout the U.S., many libraries and information centers have taken steps to provide overdose response training for employees. The iSchool recognizes the importance of this training for our field and is offering a hybrid session this semester to learn these lifesaving skills. Training will cover the opioid epidemic, recognizing and responding to an opioid overdose, and the administration of the overdose reversal drug, Narcan (naloxone). All trainees will receive a certificate; in-person trainees will also receive one free dose of Narcan.
This training is in collaboration with Champaign-Urbana Public Health District. If you’d like to learn more, check out this toolkit developed by the Public Library Association and OCLC. Also, please consider this testimonial by a previous MSLIS trainee:
“I took the Narcan training, and just last Monday I unfortunately had to use what I learned on a student in our library. I was alone on the building floor, and I do not know what I would have done without the training the iSchool provided. Thank you for making this valuable training available.” – Academic library employee
