Get to know Liza Booker (MS '13), user experience analyst

Liza Booker

"How do you want to contribute?" Alumna Liza Booker poses this question to GSLIS students. Find your answer, she says, and then use your education to help you make a difference in the world. As a UX analyst, Booker uses her skills to support research that addresses scientific and societal challenges facing the nation.

Where do you work and what is your role?
I work at Argonne National Laboratory as a user experience analyst, providing users with access to our supercomputers, maintaining a database of accounts and projects, and analyzing our processes based on user needs.

What do you like best about your job?
I like that I can incorporate my library skills by working with users and providing them with the information they need, as well as explore the realm of information technology and science.

What do you see as the most important impact of your work?
I provide researchers with the resources they need to do groundbreaking research in STEM.

How did GSLIS help you get to where you are today?
GSLIS helped elevate my research ability and provided a strong support system for my early career in librarianship.

What advice would you like to share with GSLIS students?
Your degree is an enhancement of what you know and who you are, but it is ultimately your interests that determine where that degree takes you in life. Librarians and information professionals help the world in various ways. How do you want to contribute?

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Cooking and dining, using technology, hanging out with friends, reading, writing, and caring for my spoiled cat.

Get to know Eugene Gurevich, analyst

In his role as analyst at Nicor Gas, Eugene Gurevich (BSIS '23) is making sure the natural gas system that millions of people use stays safe and dependable. He credits the iSchool with teaching him technical skills—such as how to clean, transform, and visualize data—as well as how to communicate effectively with different audiences. Gurevich encourages current students to "explore unconventional career paths."

Get to know Alex Aspiazu, librarian

As a librarian at Kiplinger Research Library, Alex Aspiazu (MSLIS '22) loves solving historical mysteries and serving as a welcoming guide for patrons who are new to special collection libraries. When not providing a friendly presence at Kiplinger, Washington, DC residents can catch Aspiazu performing in plays at area theaters.

ISAA seeks nominations for annual awards

The iSchool Alumni Association (ISAA) is seeking nominations for three distinguished awards. The awards are given annually at the iSchool alumni reception held at the American Library Association conference. The deadline for nomination is April 1, 2026.
