Research focus

Constrained-platform game development, human-computer interaction for wearable play, AI-assisted creative workflows, technical-art tools, and production systems, with an emphasis on turning real-world making and optimization into transferable teaching practices.

Biography

Jiovanie Velazquez’s work sits at the intersection of 3D art, technical art, game development, creative production workflows, and applied technology. Previously a specialized faculty member in Informatics, he brings more than 25 years of professional experience across AAA and independent games, simulation, VR, film/VFX, digital production, and tool development.

His current applied scholarship and creative practice focus on AI-assisted workflows, constrained-platform development, and the use of technical artifacts as teaching and research material. 

Across his career, Velazquez has contributed to shipped games and production projects across PC, mobile, Xbox, PlayStation, and Nintendo platforms, with work spanning art direction, technical art, character and vehicle art, rigging, animation, tools, pipelines, simulation media, and creative leadership, including:

  1. Vector Wing, solo-developed 3D Apple Watch action game in active development and beta testing.
  2. Break Even, solo-developed mathematical card game for Apple Watch and iPhone in active development and beta testing.
  3. Geo-C-Thru, Blender viewport and workflow utility.
  4. Bubble Rockit, solo-developed and self-published iPhone game.
  5. Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball, creative direction and production work.
  6. Saints Row IV, character art.
  7. The Powerpuff Girls: Defenders of Townsville, animation.
  8. Red Faction II, production art.
  9. Red Faction, production art.
  10. Summoner, production art. 

He holds an associate’s degree from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
