iSchool Winter Party

winter party

Join us for the end of year holiday party co-sponsored by the ALA Student Chapter, SAA, Student Advisory Board, QLA, and PLG! Some light snacks will be provided courtesy of the iSchool Alumni Association, but this is also a potluck, so click here to sign up to bring something to the potluck. Please feel free to bring your own beverage (as long as it is non-alcoholic).

Activities and merriment can be had by all! There will be a juried ugly sweater contest, musical chairs, board games, card crafting for the organization Books to Prisoners, and a photobooth. LEEP students are encouraged to submit their ugly sweater photos to be considered for the chance to win a prize!

Several activities sponsored by ALA require some advance participation and these include a book binding activity and a blind book exchange. Details for these activities can be found below. So please, wear your ugliest sweater, bring a dish to pass if you so choose, and be ready to get into the holiday spirit! If you have general questions about the event, please contact Paige Dhyne at paiged2@illinois.edu with "Holiday Party" in the subject line of your email.

Blind Book Exchange Information

The blind book exchange is sponsored by the Intellectual Freedom Committee as part of the ALA Student Chapter:

"...the owner of a particular copy [of a work]..., or any person authorized by such owner, is entitled, without the authority of the copyright owner, to sell or otherwise dispose of the possession of that copy... "
(17 U.S. Code § 109 (a), "First-Sale Doctrine")
In the spirit of the "First-Sale Doctrine," join the Intellectual Freedom Committee in a Blind Date with a Book Swap! Bring a wrapped book of your choosing (in good to excellent condition) and include three to four words or short phrases that give a hint at the book's theme attached to the outside. Drop them off at the swap table when you arrive and pick up a new book on your way out!

Book Binding Information

Join the ALCTS Committee in making a beautiful bound pamphlet in one of two styles: traditional sewn or Japanese stab binding. These are perfect for last minute gifts or just for yourself! If you would like to make a pamphlet, please email brinnam2@illinois.edu before Dec. 14th so that we can assure there are enough supplies for all who are interested.
