An internship with Discover Financial Services led to a full-time position at the company for Terence Frank Njekeu (BSIS '22). He enjoys helping provide solutions for his company’s analytics needs in his role as senior operation strategy analyst.

Where do you work and what is your role?

I work for Discover Financial Services as a senior operation strategy analyst. My work includes preparing analytic reports for many committees across the company as well as leadership reports. I am currently focusing on automating these reports using Python to make the process more efficient.

What do you like best about your job?

I like collaborating with business partners and our leadership to provide solutions to their analytics needs.

What do you see as the most important impact of your work?

The most important impact of my work is helping Discover comply with a variety of federal regulations.

How did the iSchool at Illinois help you get to where you are today?

The iSchool provided me with the knowledge necessary to be confident in a job interview and kept me informed about recruiters who were coming to campus to hire students.

How did you find your job?

I connected with a Discover recruiter on campus and was offered an internship for summer 2021. As an intern, I worked in the Fraud and Recovery Department, where I helped refer many accounts where Discover recovered money. At the end of my internship, I received a full-time offer from the company.

What advice would you like to share with iSchool students?

I would encourage students to network as much as possible, both inside and outside of the iSchool.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love to play or watch soccer and learn about aviation. I also like to attend conferences on diversity and inclusion.
