IS 521 Digital Libraries
A comprehensive examination of the history and state-of-the-art in digital library research and practice. Focuses upon the theoretical, technological, human factors and evaluative components of digital library research and practice. Course includes an intensive reading of the literature, review of existing technologies and proof-of-concepts implementation projects.
Learning objectives
- Communicate a solid understanding of the roles played--and the features provided--by comprehensive DL installations.
- Articulate the issues involved in the creation, implementation, and management of DL assets.
- Create, implement and maintain a multi-featured DL installation using the Greenstone Digital Library (GSDL) and Omeka open-source software.
