Orientation for the iSchool Professional Mentor Program

Do you have a list of questions a mile long about the information professions that you haven’t had time to ask in class or at your student job? This program provides an opportunity for you to request a mentor from our 100+ alumni and friend volunteers across the country to answer some of those questions. Once you’re matched with a mentor, you’ll set up a meeting schedule and hold an informational interview, receive feedback on your resume, and have the chance to practice interviewing. You will meet with the same mentor throughout the semester and can repeat the program for as long as you are enrolled at the iSchool. Students lead the experience and are required to prepare for each meeting with lots of great questions. We will match you with a public, corporate, or academic librarian or archivist to answer your questions about different types of organizations, different roles in those organizations, job search strategies, what employers are looking for, and how to build your professional network. Mentors are primarily alumni from the LIS program, but seniors and all grad students are eligible to participate.
