CFG Seminar by Yingjun Guan

CFG Seminar by Yingjun Guan: Can you name the academic institution name correctly?

Successfully recognizing the institution is very important. Accurate institution expressions can benefit the institutions, individual researchers, and the scientific activities. However, it is not always easy to always express the name right. For example, is “UIUC” stand for “the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign”? If not, what should it be?

In the CFG meeting this week, we will a) discuss some user cases of institution names (both misuses and good uses); b) study the patterns of the official institution names and their unofficial synonyms; c) discuss some reasons why institution name recognition is hard; d) share some state-of-the-art application and study on this topic. e) If time allows, we will also discuss some modeling techniques from NLP point of view.
