Professional Pathways Speaker Series: Sam Oehlert

Professional Pathways Sam Oehlert

Professional Pathways invites a series of working professionals across library and information science to share their journey into their careers and experiences in the field! This is a career development series where students can understand the current professional landscape, and is not intended to be a career fair or employment seeking opportunity. The speakers cover a wide range of roles within library and information science, as well as information management, and as such this event is open to ALL iSchool students.

Sam Oehlert is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. After completing a degree in History and a minor in Informatics, Sam joined the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) here on campus as a network, security, and linux systems administrator intern. The summer internship led into a full time job with the Security team at NCSA. Five years later, he moved on to Energy Sciences Network (ESnet) where he currently works in both the Security Engineering group as well as the Planning and Architecture Group. His responsibilities include developing innovative and supportable tools and architectures for efficiently protecting the assets of the US Department of Energy science complex. He currently resides in Champaign with his wife Carrie and 1 year old daughter Penelope.
