Alumni elected to national leadership roles, board position

Two GSLIS alumni have recently been elected to national leadership positions, and a third to a national board of directors position.

Ann Campion Riley (MS '77) has been elected vice-president/president-elect of the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL). Her term as president-elect will begin in July 2014, and her one-year term as president will begin in July 2015. Riley is the associate director for access, collections, and technical services at the University of Missouri.

"I am thrilled to be the next person on a long line of hard-working librarians to have the opportunity of leading ACRL," Riley said in an American Library Association (ALA) press release. "The inspiring experience of working with a future-oriented Board of Directors will be wonderful."

Vailey Oehlke (MS '92) has been elected 2015-2016 president of the Public Library Association (PLA). Oehlke is director of the Multnomah County (Oregon) Library. She will begin a one-year term as president-elect in July 2014 and will assume the role of president in July 2015.

"I am truly honored to have been elected," Oehlke told ALA. "I am passionate about the work PLA is doing on behalf of public libraries and am excited to engage our field in the conversations necessary to ensure libraries remain responsive and vital to our communities."

Manya Shorr (MS '04) has been elected to serve a three-year term as a director-at-large on the PLA Board of Directors beginning July 1, 2014. Shorr is the assistant director of community programs and services at the Omaha (Nebraska) Public Library.
