GSLIS offers Technology Specialist endorsement for professional educators

MS/LIS, CAS, and nondegree students who hold a Professional Educator License (PEL) can now add a Technology Specialist (TS) endorsement to their PEL with GSLIS coursework.

To receive TS endorsement, students must complete twenty-four hours of relevant coursework and earn a passing score on a content area test administered by the Illinois Licensure Testing System. GSLIS courses that will count toward TS endorsement include:

  • LIS390CC: Computers and Culture
  • LIS390W1A: Web Technologies and Techniques
  • LIS451: Introduction to Network Information Systems
  • LIS452: Foundations of Information Processing in LIS
  • LIS453: Systems Analysis and Management
  • LIS458: Instruction and Assistance Systems
  • LIS490DB: Introduction to Databases
  • LIS490IL: Informal Learning Spaces and Pedagogies
  • LIS490TE: Introduction to Technology for LIS
  • LIS515: Media Literacy for Youth
  • LIS590II: Interfaces to Information Systems
  • LIS590LW: Web Design and Construction for Organizations
  • LIS590NA: Network Analysis
  • LIS590PV: Privacy in the Internet Age

Courses taken by GSLIS alumni in the past will be accepted. MS/LIS and CAS students pursuing TS endorsement may count some or all of their TS coursework toward their degree requirements. Consult an advisor to learn more. Individuals who are not enrolled in a GSLIS degree program may register for classes as nondegree students on a space-available basis. Contact the K-12 program coordinator for more information.
