Grissom joins admissions and records team

Charlei Grissom, Office Support Specialist

Charlei Grissom joined the iSchool on April 14 as an office support specialist. In her new role, she will provide administrative support to the admissions and records team.

Prior to joining the School, Grissom served as an operations training specialist at FedEx Ground, where she focused on developing talent and enhancing operations. She proudly served in the United States Army for eleven years, starting as a motor transport operator and later reclassifying as an automated logistical specialist. During her military service, Grissom earned an associate degree in medical insurance billing and coding from the Allen School of Health Science. She is currently working on her bachelor's degree in criminal justice from the University of Phoenix. 

"Joining the iSchool is all about embracing new perspectives and learning opportunities," she said. "I’m excited to contribute to my team and make a positive impact."

In her free time, Grissom enjoys spending time with family, traveling, reading, and writing short poems.

Sanders joins Academic Affairs

Rachael Sanders joined the iSchool last month as office manager for Academic Affairs. In her new position, she will work closely with faculty, staff, and university administration to ensure accurate scheduling and efficient course management for the iSchool's undergraduate programs.

Dismissal of the Librarian of Congress and the Register of Copyrights

On May 8, 2025, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden was dismissed from office. On May 10, 2025, Shira Perlmutter, the Register of Copyrights and director of the Copyright Office, which is part of the Library of Congress, was also terminated. These unexpected decisions raise grave concerns for research libraries, including the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Library, and for the national infrastructure that supports scholarship, access to knowledge, and preservation of cultural heritage.
