Bonn joins GSLIS

This fall, Maria Bonn joins the Graduate School of Library and Information Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a senior lecturer. Bonn will teach courses on the role of libraries in scholarly communication and publishing.

Most recently, Bonn served as the associate university librarian for publishing at the University of Michigan Library, with responsibility for publishing and scholarly communications initiatives, including the University of Michigan Press, the Scholarly Publishing Office, the institutional repository (Deep Blue), the Copyright Office, and the Text Creation Partnership.

"The role of libraries in scholarly publishing has never been more important. Dr. Bonn brings to GSLIS extraordinary experience and expertise in this now critical area.  We are delighted to welcome her to the GSLIS community," said Allen Renear, GSLIS interim dean and professor.

Bonn has been an assistant professor of English at Albion College and also taught at Sichuan International Studies University (Chongqing, China) and Bilkent University (Ankara, Turkey). She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester, master’s and doctoral degrees in American Literature from SUNY Buffalo, and a master’s in information and library science from the University of Michigan.

Bonn welcomes the opportunity to join an “information school with such an extraordinary reputation for innovation and overall excellence in information education," she said. "I look forward to both learning and teaching at GSLIS, and, for once, can't wait for the first day of school.”
