Linda C. Smith, professor and associate dean for academic programs, will participate in a panel discussion at the Access to Success Colloquium on April 28. Smith, fellow Illinois faculty members, and the colloquium’s keynote speaker will discuss the future of online graduate education.
The colloquium is part of the ongoing Access to Success (A2S) research project, which works to develop strategies for recruitment and retention of minority graduate students in online education programs. In addition to the faculty panel discussion, the colloquium will feature A2S and related projects in a research showcase, and graduate students will have an opportunity to engage in a roundtable conversation with the keynote speaker.
Online pedagogy in library and information science education is a primary research focus for Smith. She has played an active role in the success of GSLIS’s cutting-edge LEEP program, through which the School’s top-ranked master’s program is accessible to students around the world. Smith’s research interests also include information system design and the impact of new technologies on reference and information services. She teaches online courses in information organization and access, reference and information services, and information sources and services in the sciences.
