Hinchliffe runs for 2017-18 ALA Presidency

hinchliffe_lisa_2.jpg?itok=kPSk57ta Lisa Hinchliffe (MS ’94), GSLIS alumna and affiliated faculty member, is one of two candidates nominated for the 2017-18 American Library Association (ALA) presidency. She is professor and coordinator for information literacy services and instruction at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Library.

In accepting the nomination, Hinchilffe expressed gratitude for the benefits she has received as a continuous ALA member since her days as a GSLIS student. "I have learned so much from so many colleagues in the association. It would be a privilege to give back to the profession by serving in this role. As ALA President, my goal will be to enable all ALA members to benefit from their connection with the association in order to better serve their communities and strengthen our libraries. Together, we can improve and transform people’s lives and our society," said Hinchliffe.

Ballot mailing for the 2016 ALA election will begin on March 15, 2016, and will run through April 22, 2016. Individuals must be members in good standing as of January 31, 2016, in order to vote in the ALA election.

ISAA seeks nominations for annual awards

The iSchool Alumni Association (ISAA) is seeking nominations for three distinguished awards. The awards are given annually at the iSchool alumni reception held at the American Library Association conference. The deadline for nomination is April 1, 2026.

Cultural immersion fellowship prepares Pellecer for future in technology policy

Aisaiah Pellecer had originally planned to attend graduate school after earning his bachelor's degree in information sciences + data science (BSIS+DS). His plans changed after learning about the Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals, a fellowship that annually provides 65 American and 65 German young professionals the opportunity to spend one year in each other’s countries—studying, interning, and living with hosts on a cultural immersion program.
