GSLIS names 2015-2017 Research Fellows

The GSLIS faculty have selected three scholars to be appointed research fellows from August 2015 to August 2017. GSLIS research fellows are chosen because their work is relevant to the interests of GSLIS faculty and students. Each will give at least one lecture during their appointment.

Nominated by Associate Professor Emerita Christine Jenkins and Associate Professor Carol Tilley is Denise Agosto, professor in Drexel University’s College of Computing & Informatics. Her research areas include information behavior, public libraries, social networks, gender, children, and teens.

Nominated by Professor Bertram Ludäscher is C. Titus Brown, associate professor of genetics at the University of California, Davis School of Veterinary Medicine. His research interests include data-intensive biology, genomics, open science, and cyberinfrastructure.

Nominated by Associate Professor Terry Weech is Peter Lor, professor in the Department of Information Science at the University of Pretoria, South Africa. His research interests include international and comparative library and information studies, currently focusing on: research method and theory, international influence and policy borrowing in LIS, LIS development and information flows to and from developing countries, international organizations, and international political economy of information.

iSchool researchers to present at ASSETS 2025

iSchool faculty and students will present their research at the 27th International Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) Special Interest Group (SIG) ACCESS Conference on Computers and Accessibility (ASSETS 2025), which will be held in Denver, Colorado, October 26–29, 2025. This conference allows researchers to present their scholarship on design, evaluation, use, and education related to computing for people with disabilities and older adults.

Library Trends examines genre classifications in latest issue

The iSchool at Illinois is pleased to announce the publication of Library Trends 74 (1), titled “Genres and Their Uses in Cultural Documentation: Exploring Generic Access to Creative Worlds.” Pushing back against the notion of genres as “inferior” classifications due to their ambiguity, this issue instead explores how genre classifications facilitate access to creative works in libraries and beyond.
