Haricombe to deliver GSLIS Convocation address

GSLIS alumna Lorraine Haricombe (MS ’88, PhD ’92) will deliver the 2016 GSLIS Convocation address, "Imagine." The event will be held on Sunday, May 15, at 9:30 a.m. For those who would like to watch the ceremony online, live video will be available as well as archived for future viewing.

Born and raised in South Africa, Haricombe joined the University of Texas Libraries in 2015 as vice provost and director after serving as dean of libraries at the University of Kansas (2006-2015) and at Bowling Green State University in Ohio (2001-2006). She previously held administrative positions at the libraries at Northern Illinois University and Peninsula Technikon in the Republic of South Africa.

Haricombe is a recognized leader in the field of librarianship. Her experience includes positions as president of the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) and the PubMed Central Advisory Board. She currently serves as chair of the Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition (SPARC) and as an appointed member of the Board of Directors for the Association of Research Libraries.

In addition to her GSLIS degrees, Haricombe holds a teacher certification from the University of South Africa, an honors graduate degree in library and information science from the University of the Western Cape in South Africa, and a bachelor’s degree in library and information science, psychology, and sociology from the University of the Western Cape.

Glen Layne-Worthey, associate director for research support services for the HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC), and Isabel Galina, researcher at the Institute for Bibliographic Studies at the National University of Mexico, have edited a new book, The Routledge Companion to Libraries, Archives, and the Digital Humanities, which was recently released by Routledge.

Library Trends honors Mary Niles Maack

The School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce the publication of Library Trends 72 (3). This issue, "Feminist and Global Perspectives on an Evolving Profession: Papers Honoring Mary Niles Maack," celebrates Maack’s life and career as well as her scholarship’s influence around the globe. Maack’s colleagues, Michèle V. Cloonan and Suzanne M. Stauffer, served as guest editors.

iSchool represented at Charleston Conference

iSchool adjunct and affiliate faculty will participate in virtual and in-person sessions of the 2024 Charleston Conference. The conference is an annual gathering that draws librarians, publishers, vendors, and others to discuss issues relating to the acquisition and publication of books and serials.
