Williams returns to the iSchool as student coordinator and advisor

Jessica Williams (MS '13) joined the School on August 16 as a graduate student coordinator and academic advisor. In this role, she will provide academic advising and program planning for students enrolled in the MS in information management (MS/IM) program, as well as work with Michael Twidale, professor and MS/IM program director, and others to continue to evolve the program. 

Williams holds a master's degree in English from the University of Georgia and a bachelor's degree in English from Auburn University. She decided to pursue her MS in library and information science following a recommendation from one of her professors about the collaborative nature of the field. Williams recently started her Certificate of Advanced Study at the iSchool with the goal of enhancing her expertise in the management of electronic records and digital archives.

Prior to joining the iSchool staff, Williams worked at the University's Facilities and Services division as a records and information management coordinator, a job that evolved from the graduate assistantship she held there as an MS/LIS student.

"One of the things I really enjoyed in my previous position was talking to graduate students about their plans and what they needed to do to obtain their goals," she said. "When I saw this position open, I thought it would be interesting and fun to do that full time, with the added benefit of getting to share my experiences and what I've learned in the field with more students." 

Williams looks forward to expanding the programming available for MS/IM students and helping students be successful in their academic career and beyond.

iSchool to shape development of cultural heritage documentation standards

The School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has formally joined the special interest group (SIG) that leads the development of the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model (CRM), an ISO standard (21127:2023) for the exchange and integration of wide-ranging scientific and scholarly documentation about the past.

Bailey joins the communications and marketing team

J.B. Bailey joined the iSchool on April 13 as coordinator of events. In this new role, he will be responsible for the development, management, and implementation of iSchool events with a cohesive brand identity. He will also provide support to the communications and marketing team.

Meet the iSchool undergraduate advising team

The iSchool welcomed five staff members to its undergraduate advising team this academic year. Academic Advisors and Coordinators Cory Castaneda, Dara (DL) Lawyer, and Keri Marion joined the School in August, and Katie Murphy joined in February. Stacy Clemmons was promoted to senior advisor and coordinator and transitioned from graduate to undergraduate student advising.
