2022 Maria Bonn
Maria Bonn, Associate Professor

Maria Bonn has been appointed to the position of associate professor at the School of Information Sciences, effective August 16, 2018. She previously served as a senior lecturer at the School, where she teaches courses in academic librarianship and the role of libraries in scholarly communication and publishing.

Prior to joining Illinois in 2013, Bonn served as the associate university librarian for publishing at the University of Michigan Library, with responsibility for publishing and scholarly communications initiatives, including Michigan Publishing. She has also been an assistant professor of English at institutions both in the U.S. and abroad. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Rochester, master's and doctoral degrees in American literature from SUNY Buffalo, and a master's in information and library science from the University of Michigan.

Her research focuses on understanding the needs of scholars in a contemporary publishing environment; comparing the collaborative practices of scientists and humanists and how they might inform each other; and examining best strategies for libraries to benefit from economies of scale while remaining embedded in local communities.

"I'm excited about taking on this new role in the School, about the continuing opportunity for working with great colleagues and students, and about new opportunities to help shape the future of the information professions," Bonn said.
