Illinois to host international digital libraries conference

Starting this weekend, the University of Illinois will host the 2019 ACM/IEEE-CS Joint Conference on Digital Libraries (JCDL), a major international forum focusing on digital libraries and associated technical, practical, and social issues. The conference will be held from June 2-6 at the iHotel and Conference Center in Champaign. In addition to the University, cosponsors of JCDL include the iSchool and University Library.

The theme of JCDL is "Curated Knowledge. Connected People. Extraordinary Results." Keynote speakers include Patricia Hswe (MS '08), program officer for Scholarly Communications at The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; Robert Sanderson, semantic architect at the J. Paul Getty Trust; and John Wilkin, University Librarian at Illinois. The conference will feature paper and poster presentations as well as a wide variety of tutorials and workshops offering hands-on experiences with different digital libraries and online archives.

"We are excited and honored to host all the amazing, world-class digital library researchers and their remarkable students who are joining us from nearly 30 countries and 5 continents, "said Professor and Associate Dean for Research J. Stephen Downie, co-chair of the conference organizing committee.
