McComas joins the iSchool’s IT team

Whitney McComas joined the iSchool on January 8 as an instructional technology support specialist. She comes to the School from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, where she worked as the Moodle service manager and an educational technology specialist for Applied Technologies for Learning in the Arts and Sciences (ATLAS). 

At the iSchool, McComas will support instructors with instructional technologies such as Moodle and Zoom. 

"I really enjoy helping people, especially with online learning and instructional technology," she said. "I am very excited to work with instructors in developing their courses in Moodle and to show them tips and tricks to make their courses a great learning experience for their students and a joyful teaching experience for them."

McComas earned her bachelor's and master's degrees in Latin from the University of Illinois.

Sanders joins Academic Affairs

Rachael Sanders joined the iSchool last month as office manager for Academic Affairs. In her new position, she will work closely with faculty, staff, and university administration to ensure accurate scheduling and efficient course management for the iSchool's undergraduate programs.

Dismissal of the Librarian of Congress and the Register of Copyrights

On May 8, 2025, Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden was dismissed from office. On May 10, 2025, Shira Perlmutter, the Register of Copyrights and director of the Copyright Office, which is part of the Library of Congress, was also terminated. These unexpected decisions raise grave concerns for research libraries, including the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign Library, and for the national infrastructure that supports scholarship, access to knowledge, and preservation of cultural heritage.
