NACADA recognizes Talbott for excellence in advising

Academic Advisor Katelyn Talbott has received the Region 5 Excellence in Advising - New Advisor award from NACADA, the global community for academic advising. The award is presented to "individuals who have demonstrated qualities associated with outstanding academic advising of students" for less than three years.

Talbott, who joined the iSchool in January 2019, primarily advises MS/LIS students. In August 2020, she was named Outstanding New Advising Professional by IlliAAC, a professional development organization for student and academic affairs staff at the University of Illinois. According to Assistant Dean for Student Affairs Meg Edwards, Talbott's professionalism, empathy, creativity, and responsiveness are "exemplary."

"As I approach two years with the iSchool, I could not have imagined learning from a better group of staff and faculty! With their guidance, I am able to continue to support the needs of our students each day," Talbott said.

The award will be presented at the NACADA Region 5 Conference, which will be held virtually on April 7-9, 2021.
