Goodloe joins iSchool as academic advisor

Denzel Goodloe has joined the iSchool as assistant director for MS/IM and MS/BIO advising. In this role, he provides academic advising for students enrolled in the MS in information management (MS/IM) and MS in bioinformatics programs.

Goodloe holds a master's degree in student affairs higher education from Indiana State University and a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Eastern Illinois University. Prior to assuming his position with the iSchool's Student Affairs team, Goodloe served as an academic advisor for the Division of General Studies at the University of Illinois.

"My favorite part of advising is helping to ensure student success in their academic endeavors, while discovering their dreams, goals, and purpose," he said. "I am extremely enthusiastic about the iSchool's focus on real-world preparation. It is truly an honor to contribute to the School’s ongoing success."

Weech passes away

Associate Professor Emeritus Terry Laverne Weech passed away on June 5, 2025, in Staunton, Virginia. He was the widower of Eunice Hovis Weech, who passed away on October 16, 2022. He is survived by his sister-in-law, Brenda Bruce, and her husband, Timothy, and cousins, Wilber Rehmann and Susan Henry Anderson.

Library Trends examines generative AI in libraries

The iSchool at Illinois is pleased to announce the publication of Library Trends 73 (3). With the rapid adoption of AI, coupled with increasing ethical concerns relating to AI usage, bias, and authorship, "Generative AI and Libraries: Applications and Ethics, Part I" is the first of two special issues that examine how librarians are grappling with the effects of AI on the field.
