Amira Al-Mutairi, Academic Advisor and Coordinator of Graduate Affairs for MSIM and MS BIO

Amira Al-Mutairi joined the iSchool last month as an academic advisor and coordinator of graduate affairs. In this position, she will provide academic advising and support for students in the MS in Information Management and MS in Bioinformatics programs. She will also be responsible for teaching Internship (IS 569).

Al-Mutairi has over ten years of experience in advising students, most recently serving as the lead academic advisor for undergraduates in the College of Education on the Urbana campus. Her higher education experience includes honors programs, recruitment, admissions, student retention, Optional Practical Training (OPT), and Curricular Practical Training (CPT). She earned a Master of Education in education policy, organization, and leadership from the University of Illinois after working in the field of education for several years. She holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from DePaul University.

In her free time, Al-Mutairi enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, working in her flower garden, scuba diving, and clipping coupons.

"Along with the draw of working with top-ranked programs, the iSchool's mission and values spoke to me. It's an honor to join a team of talented faculty, staff, and students who are dedicated to solving pressing global problems. Additionally, as an international educator, working with a sizable number of international students in our MSIM program was a huge factor in the decision-making process," she said.
