McMillion to lead undergraduate affairs

Desiree McMillion has joined the iSchool as director of undergraduate affairs. In her new position, she will provide leadership and strategic direction for the School's undergraduate degrees, the BS in Information Sciences (BSIS) and BS in Information Sciences + Data Science (BSIS+DS).

During her more than twenty-year tenure at the University of Illinois, McMillion has held positions across campus, most recently serving in various roles for the Department of African American Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Her responsibilities have spanned critical academic and administrative functions, such as curriculum development, departmental operations, academic advising, consulting, recruitment, retention, workshop and program design, instruction, mentoring to foster academic growth, and community collaboration. An Illinois alumna, McMillion earned her PhD in education policy, organization, and leadership and MA in human resource education. She also holds a BA in psychology from Eastern Illinois University.

"The iSchool's dedication to innovation and interdisciplinary approaches aligns perfectly with my own values. I look forward to collaborating with thought leaders and a diverse group of students to advance the field," said McMillion. "Over the years, the positive relationships I've cultivated and the guidance I've offered have profoundly shaped the academic and professional journeys of students, faculty, and staff, leaving a lasting impact on their lives and beyond. I am eager to bring my talents to the iSchool, and to contribute to the continued success of its vibrant community."

In her free time, McMillion enjoys reading, sports, shopping, traveling around the world, and exploring diverse cuisines. She is passionate about discovering new knowledge, mentoring, consulting, and engaging with her family, friends, and community.

Glen Layne-Worthey, associate director for research support services for the HathiTrust Research Center (HTRC), and Isabel Galina, researcher at the Institute for Bibliographic Studies at the National University of Mexico, have edited a new book, The Routledge Companion to Libraries, Archives, and the Digital Humanities, which was recently released by Routledge.

Library Trends honors Mary Niles Maack

The School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce the publication of Library Trends 72 (3). This issue, "Feminist and Global Perspectives on an Evolving Profession: Papers Honoring Mary Niles Maack," celebrates Maack’s life and career as well as her scholarship’s influence around the globe. Maack’s colleagues, Michèle V. Cloonan and Suzanne M. Stauffer, served as guest editors.

iSchool represented at Charleston Conference

iSchool adjunct and affiliate faculty will participate in virtual and in-person sessions of the 2024 Charleston Conference. The conference is an annual gathering that draws librarians, publishers, vendors, and others to discuss issues relating to the acquisition and publication of books and serials.
