Yaoyao Liu, Assistant Professor

The iSchool is pleased to announce that Yaoyao Liu joined the faculty as an assistant professor on September 5, 2024. He most recently served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University.

Liu's research lies at the intersection of computer vision and machine learning. He is especially interested in building intelligent visual systems—computer-based technologies that extract and interpret visual data in real time—that are continual and data-efficient. His research interests include continual, few-shot, and semi-supervised machine learning; generative and 3D geometry models; and medical imaging. He earned his PhD in computer science at Max Planck Institute for Informatics and his bachelor's degree in electronic information engineering at Tianjin University.

"I am thrilled that Yaoyao has found an academic home in the iSchool," said Dean and Professor Eunice E. Santos. "His scientific curiosity and interest in collaborative research will further advance our School's innovative teaching, research, and engagement."

"I am very excited to join the University of Illinois to continue my research," said Liu. "The iSchool is a leading institution in information sciences and has a vibrant interdisciplinary community with many excellent faculty members and students. I am really looking forward to collaborating with them!"
