Nontraditional Library Careers: Panel Discussion

Join ARLIS/NA Midstates and SLA-Illinois for a panel discussion on nontraditional library careers. A panel of librarians will share their experiences working in a variety of library environments: special collections, corporate information centers, museum libraries, and special libraries. The conversation will include reflections on working in nontraditional library roles, real career advice, and a discussion of the value of professional organizations for librarians.

Panelists:

Anna Simon is the research and instruction librarian at the Kohler Art Library, University of Wisconsin-Madison. She recently relocated back to the Midwest after five years in Washington, DC, where she was the collections, reference, and instruction librarian for art and art history and film and media studies at Georgetown University. She received a dual degree in art history and library science at Indiana University, Bloomington. 

Stephanie Fletcher is the e-resources/reference librarian at the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries at the Art Institute of Chicago. She holds an MLIS from Dominican University and an MA in art history from Illinois. She is currently the secretary/treasurer of the ARLIS/NA-Midstates Chapter and the moderator of the Art Librarian Parents and Caregivers Special Interest Group.

Rachel Cole is the public services librarian for Northwestern University's Transportation Library. Her experience includes work in special collections at the Newberry Library and the Ryerson & Burnham Libraries at the Art Institute of Chicago, as a research editor at Encyclopaedia Britannica, and as a records analyst with Deloitte. She holds an MLIS from Dominican University and is currently SLA-Illinois President-Elect.

Kristin Petersheim (MS '15) is a technical information Specialist at Caterpillar, where she currently acts as document delivery and outreach librarian, and consults on projects related to knowledge management, instruction and research, and resources selection. She is a member of the SLA Illinois Board.
