1. GSLIS SPOTLIGHT
Ayad, Ford co-found UNESCO Center for Global Citizenship at Illinois
GSLIS is pleased to share the announcement of the newly established UNESCO Center for Global Citizenship (UCGC), a community-university organization founded on the belief that multicultural knowledge and intercultural understanding generate a better, more interesting, more productive, and -- above all -- more peaceful world in which to live. UCGC is supported by the Center for Global Studies at the University of Illinois. The founders are Amani Ayad, coordinator for the LIS Access Midwest (LAMP) Program at GSLIS; Barbara Ford (MS '73), GSLIS alumna and director of the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs at the University of Illinois Library and member of the U.S. National Commission for UNESCO; and Helaine Silverman, professor in the Department of Anthropology, in cooperation with the Collaborative for Cultural Heritage Management and Policy (CHAMP) at the University of Illinois. UCGC is part of a network of over 3,800 UNESCO centers, associations, and clubs in more than 80 countries and is the second UNESCO affiliate in the United States.

News from GSLIS's Center for Digital Inclusion
The Center will participate in both the US Ignite Application Summit and Techweek Chicago, June 24-28, 2013.
US Ignite fosters the creation of next-generation Internet applications that provide transformative public benefit. By engaging diverse public and private leaders, we "ignite" the development and deployment of new apps with profound impact on how Americans work, live, learn and play. The first annual US Ignite Application Summit will be held at the University of Illinois-Chicago, from June 24-26, 2013, and is billed as the premier event for innovative developers, entrepreneurs, technology companies, forward-thinking communities, leading university researchers, students, and federal agency leaders to gather, learn and showcase their work using high capacity, next-generation networks. For more information about this year's Application Summit, please visit http://us-ignite.org/. If you will be in Chicago and would like to volunteer, please contact Shavion Scott.
Techweek Chicago 2013 is a three-day showcase of the technology landscape evolving in Chicago and across the Midwest. Techweek started as a small conference in 2011, growing out of the innovative Chicago tech scene to support the industry's emerging ecosystem. Now carrying momentum into its third year, Techweek continues to improve upon its formula: get inspired, get started, and get skilled for 2013. On June 27-29, 2013, participants will have the opportunity to get inspired by top innovators, get started on their own entrepreneurial journey, and get skilled in the technical and business skills that will lead them to success. Participants can look forward to exhilarating speakers, new concepts, incredible exhibitors, and more.
