Master's students recognized for excellence in exhibition design

Four GSLIS master's students have been named the 2015 recipients of the C. Barber Mueller Prizes for Excellence in Exhibition Design, which is awarded annually by the University of Illinois Library's Library Exhibitions Committee.

Linsy DePooter and Meredith Knoff, graduate assistants at the Undergraduate Library, were selected for their exhibit titled, "Words into Music," which is on display in the Main Library's Marshall Gallery through March 31.

“Using the Music and Performance Art Library’s impressive and diverse score collection, we hope to draw attention to its skillfully crafted collection of contemporary works and integrate it into what might be considered a more traditional library holding, such as volumes of poetry. We hope to accomplish this by juxtaposing contemporary settings of works in the form of art songs directly against the original form as displayed in verse. This will also serve to highlight how the many libraries on campus are interconnected and how, through utilizing collections from different sources, users are able to construct a fuller and more nuanced approach to our holdings.”

Kayla Hays and Anna Trammell, graduate assistants in Scholarly Commons, were selected for their exhibit titled, "Assemble: How Protests Shaped University History: 1947-Present," which will be on display in the Marshall Gallery throughout April.

“The Student Life and Culture Archival Program is tasked with preserving and documenting the story of students at the University of Illinois. By actively collecting materials relating to student organizations, functions, and movements, the SLC continues to add chapters to this story for the benefit of future students…This exhibit is designed to highlight the history of student movements on campus, drawing attention to the ways in which students have organized and participated in protests throughout the years and how they continue to make history on campus today.”
