Three from GSLIS to speak at CIRN Conference

Three representatives from GSLIS will travel to Prato, Italy, next week to participate in the Community Informatics Research Network (CIRN) Conference. Held November 9-11, the theme of the 2015 conference is "Privilege, Information, Knowledge & Power: An endless dilemma?" The Center for Digital Inclusion is a sponsor of the event, and Senior Research Scientist Martin Wolske is a member of the organizing committee.

Wolske will lead a workshop session titled, "Toward a CIRN Statement on Ethics, Diversity, and Inclusion," in which attendees can provide feedback on a proposed statement on ethics, diversity, and inclusion. Colin Rhinesmith (PhD '14) and Kelvin White of the University of Oklahoma School of Library and Information Studies will lead the session with Wolske.

Master’s student Hailley Fargo and Wolske will present, "A New Kind of Digital Literacy Program: Discovering Viewpoints on Technology and Impact of the Digital Literacy for All Learners Project," as part of a panel discussion on education and digital literacy.

During the graduate colloquium portion of the conference, master’s student Emily Purcell will present her paper, "Crossing Borders: Building an International Student-Led Community Engagement Approach."
