Agosto to deliver 2016 Gryphon Lecture

Denise Agosto

The Center for Children’s Books will host the 2016 Gryphon Lecture on Friday, March 11. The annual lecture, which is free and open to campus and the public, features a leading scholar in the field of youth and literature, media, and culture.

Denise Agosto, GSLIS research fellow and professor in Drexel University’s College of Computing & Informatics, will deliver this year’s lecture, "The True Story of Teens, Social Media, and Libraries: Using Teen-Centered Research to Break Down Pervasive Stereotypes.” Agosto’s research interests include youth information behaviors, public libraries, multicultural issues in youth library services, and qualitative research methods. She is the recipient of national teaching awards from the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE) and the Association for Information Science and Technology (ASIS&T)

The lecture will begin at 7:00 p.m. in Room 126 of the GSLIS Building. A reception will follow in the East Foyer.

Chen appointed interim executive associate dean

Jiangping Chen assumed the position of interim executive associate dean and visiting professor on August 16. In this role, she will work closely with Dean Eunice E. Santos to realize the iSchool's strategic goals and objectives. She also will provide leadership for the internal administration of the School, including oversight for the work of associate deans and assigned staff as well as the coordination of faculty affairs. Chen's position will become permanent following approval by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees.

Al-Mutairi joins advising team

Amira Al-Mutairi joined the iSchool last month as an academic advisor and coordinator of graduate affairs. In this position, she will provide academic advising and support for students in the MS in Information Management and MS in Bioinformatics programs. She will also be responsible for teaching Internship (IS 569).

Clemmons joins advising team

Stacy Clemmons joined the iSchool this month as academic advisor and coordinator of graduate affairs. In this position, she will provide academic advising and support for students in the MS in Information Management and MS in Bioinformatics programs.
