The iSchool is pleased to announce that Haileleol Tibebu joined the faculty as a teaching assistant professor on January 1, 2025. His research and teaching interests include responsible AI, AI policy and governance, algorithmic fairness, and the intersection of technology and society.
Tibebu earned his PhD in artificial intelligence from Loughborough University London and served as a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Houston before joining the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He is currently teaching Machine Learning Cloud (IS 597 MLC) and Ethics and Policy for Data Science (IS 467).
"I am excited to join the iSchool, where I look forward to advancing research in responsible AI, AI policy, and algorithmic fairness," said Tibebu. "My goal is to contribute to the development of ethical, transparent, and accountable AI systems that benefit humanity. I am particularly eager to collaborate with colleagues and students to explore the intersection of technology, governance, and social impact."
