Ten iSchool students were named 2022 Sylvia Murphy Williams Scholars by the Illinois Library Association (ILA). The scholarships, which include a one-year membership to the association and a scholarship to the ILA Annual Conference, are given to American Library Association (ALA) Spectrum Scholars who live in Illinois or who are attending graduate programs in library and information science in the state.

Teaching Associate Professor Judith Pintar and Teaching Assistant Professor David Hopping have written a new book, Information Science: The Basics, which was recently published by Routledge.

In an article recently published in the NACADA Journal, PhD Coordinator for Student and Academic Affairs Katelyn Talbott shares her research on online career change master's degree students. The article is the offshoot of Talbott’s PhD dissertation, which explored the motivations for career change for students enrolled in an online MS degree program and what advising services, career development services, and admissions services these students used while enrolled.

PhD student Yingying Han is helping youth learn about Chinese American history and take action to preserve their cultural heritage. Through a multi-session workshop, which will take place the next four Saturdays from 10:00-11:30 a.m. at the University YMCA in Champaign, Han hopes to teach children about the contributions of Chinese immigrants and Chinese Americans to the history of the United States.

Students from the iSchool and other majors who are interested in data science, information sciences, and information systems are welcome to join Psi Eta Mu, the School's official co-ed professional fraternity. Psi Eta Mu is currently holding its rush for the spring semester and plans to accept up to twenty new members.

The School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign seeks nominations for the 2022 Robert B. Downs Intellectual Freedom Award. The deadline for nominations is March 15, 2023. The award is cosponsored by SAGE Publishing.

Jingrui He, associate professor and MSIM program director, has been named a Senior Member of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI). The Senior Member status is bestowed upon AAAI members who have achieved significant accomplishments within the field of artificial intelligence.

MSLIS student and ALA Spectrum Scholar Wardah Mohammed earned her bachelor's degree in philosophy with a focus in bioethics, global studies, and Arabic language and culture from Loyola University Chicago.

Since she was a child, Myriam Ramos has enjoyed helping organizations that give back to her community. Over the years, she has volunteered in the Back of the Yards neighborhood of Chicago, mentoring players in the Holy Cross Marimba Ensemble and planning and hosting book giveaways for youth.
