iSchool faculty and students to present research in argumentation

iSchool faculty and students will present their research at the 10th International Conference on Computational Models of Argument (COMMA 2024), which will be held from September 18-20 in Hagen, Germany, as well as pre-conference workshops. The conference brings together researchers interested in computational models of argument and the representation of argumentation structures in natural language texts.

At the conference, Professor Bertram Ludäscher and PhD student Yilin Xia will present the demo, "Layered Visualization of Argumentation Frameworks," with Shawn Bowers, professor of computer science at Gonzaga University, and Utrecht University PhD student Daphne Odekerken.

Pre-conference workshops include the 5th International Workshop on Systems and Algorithms for Formal Argumentation (SAFA2024) and the 24th International Workshop on Computational Models of Natural Argument (CMNA'24).

At SAFA2024, Ludäscher, Xia, and Bowers will present the paper, "The Skeptic's Argumentation Game or: Well-Founded Explanations for Mere Mortals."

At CMNA'24, Associate Professor Schneider and PhD student Yuanxi Fu will present their paper, "Argumentation Interfaces to Facilitate Human-Machine Collaboration in Scientific Discovery: A Preliminary Exploration." A prominent member in the argumentation community, Schneider served as one of the organizers of the workshop.
