Doctoral candidate Mikki Smith successfully defended her dissertation, "Print Networks and Youth Information Culture: Young People, Amateur Publishing, and Children’s Periodicals, 1867-1890," on April 3.
Jodi Schneider (MS '08), assistant professor, is the recipient of a start-up allocation award from the Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE). XSEDE is a project of the National Science Foundation that provides researchers with access to the world’s most advanced and powerful collection of integrated digital resources and services.
The iSchool was well represented at the international conference, "Information and Power in History," which was held at the VU University Amsterdam on March 16-17. Organized by the Huygens Institute for the History of the Netherlands, in collaboration with Radboud University and Utrecht University, the conference attracted scholars from a wide variety of historical and other disciplines.

Alumna Linda Hofschire (MS '08) is among the 2017 class of Movers & Shakers in the "Innovators" category. Hofschire is the director of the Library Research Service at Colorado State Library.
A former speech-language pathologist with a passion for social justice, master's student Nisha Mody found her calling in the field of library and information science. While at the iSchool, Mody has served on various committees and been recognized as an American Library Association (ALA) Spectrum Scholar and as part of the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce.
Alumnus Mark Sorensen (MS '98) has been named an Illinois Library Luminary by the Illinois Library Association (ILA). This distinction honors individuals whose efforts have made a significant contribution to Illinois libraries.

Twenty-one iSchool instructors were named in the University's List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent for Fall 2016. The rankings are released every semester, and results are based on the Instructor and Course Evaluation System (ICES) questionnaire forms maintained by Measurement and Evaluation in the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning.
