Blauvelt and Kinnaman complete user interface, digital preservation projects at Oxford

Two iSchool master's students undertook placements at Oxford University this summer and presented their work at a seminar earlier this month. The placements were part of the Oxford-Illinois Digital Library Placement Program, an ongoing collaboration between Illinois and Oxford. Catherine Blauvelt (MS '16) and Alex Kinnaman spent six weeks at the Oxford e-Research Centre and Bodleian Libraries, respectively.

Hubert (MS '88) receives ILA Librarian of the Year Award

Tina Hubert (MS '88), director of the Six Mile Regional Library District located in Granite City, Illinois, is the 2016 recipient of the Illinois Library Association Librarian of the Year Award. The award recognizes a librarian's distinguished service and leadership in Illinois libraries. The award is sponsored by Sikich.

Stodden to address changes in computing, information fields at National Academies workshop

How are changes in computing driving interest in related fields among undergraduates? How will an influx of graduates with computer science and information science skills affect the computing workforce? Celebrate comics and fandom with Carol Tilley at Urbana fest this weekend

Associate Professor Carol Tilley will speak this Saturday, August 13, at the Comics & Fandom Fest in Urbana, hosted by The Urbana Free Library (TUFL) and other local sponsors. Events will be held at the library and around town throughout the day. Tilley will give a presentation on great women in comics at 4:00 p.m. in the Lewis Auditorium at TUFL.

This annual conference brings together LIS professionals and students from more than one hundred and twenty countries and provides opportunities for networking and professional development.

Ohms joins iSchool as new K-12 program coordinator

Ann Ohms (MS '08) joined the School on August 1 as K-12 program coordinator. In this role, she advises students interested in pursuing licensure or endorsement as a K-12 library information specialist and supervises teacher-librarian candidates during their student teaching.

Two iSchool students named ARL diversity scholars

Two iSchool master's students have been selected by the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) Committee on Diversity and Leadership to participate in the Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce (IRDW) as ARL diversity scholars: Siobhan McKissic and Nisha Mody.

Choi, Hao, Downie to present at music information retrieval conference

Doctoral students Kahyun Choi and Yun Hao and Professor J. Stephen Downie will present their paper, "WiMIR: An Informetric Study On Women Authors In ISMIR," at the 17th International Society for Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR) Conference. Coauthors of the paper include Xiao Hu (PhD '10), Jin Ha Lee (PhD '08), Audrey Laplante, and Sally Jo Cunningham.
