Biography

Kahyun Choi is an assistant professor in the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Before then, she was an assistant professor at Indiana University Bloomington (2019-2024). She earned her PhD from the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Before pursuing her PhD, she worked as a software engineer at Naver, an Internet portal in Korea. Choi’s research applies computational methods and machine learning across various modalities, including audio and text, bridging technology with humanities and culture. She focuses on ethical AI workflows for Libraries, Archives, and Museums (LAMs), music information retrieval, computational analysis of poetic texts, and public library-based AI education programs. As a researcher and educator, she has been recognized with several prestigious awards and fellowships, including the 2023 IU Trustees Teaching Award, the 2022 Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) Early Career Research Development Project Grant, the 2021 IMLS National Leadership Grant, and the 2021 Luddy Faculty Fellowship. Through her teaching, research, and service, she continues to make significant contributions to the fields of information science and artificial intelligence.
