iSchool researchers will present their work this week at the Engagement Scholarship Consortium's 2026 annual conference in Knoxville, Tennessee. The theme of this year's conference is "Changing Lives and Improving Society: Data-Driven Engagement and Innovation." ESC's goal is to work collaboratively to build strong university-community partnerships anchored in the rigor of scholarship and designed to help build community capacity.
Associate Professor Yun Huang, as well as PhD students and iSchool affiliate faculty, will present their research at the 29th ACM Conference on Computer-Supported Cooperative Work and Social Computing (CSCW 2026), which will be held Oct. 10–14 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The online portion of the conference takes place Oct. 1.
Professor and Associate Dean for Research Dong Wang and students from his Social Sensing and Intelligence Lab are presenting two papers on information integrity at the 2026 ACM Conference on Human-AI Complementarity and Alignment (HCOMP 2026). The conference takes place Sept. 27–30 in Alexandria, Virginia.

This year, the American Library Association (ALA) celebrates its 150thanniversary in our backyard at its Chicago headquarters. As the oldest iSchool in the Midwest, our MSLIS program, established 133 years ago, has left an indelible mark on the ALA. Informatics PhD student Robbie Sieczkowski's project, "The mv lab spatial trainer," is a mixed-reality app designed to help users learn and practice foundational concepts in Laban-Bartenieff Movement Analysis (LBMA).
PhD student Wei Cao and Assistant Professor Yaoyao Liu received a Best Paper Award at the 4th Workshop on Generative Models for Computer Vision, which was held during the 2026 IEEE/CVF Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR).
A paper from Professor Dong Wang's Social Sensing & Intelligence Lab received the Best Dataset Paper Award at the International AAAI Conference on Web and Social Media (ICWSM) held in May 2026 in Los Angeles, California. According to Wang, the paper was accepted in the first review round, which had an acceptance rate of 4.7 percent (14 of 298 submissions).
