Doctoral candidate Qiuyan Guo successfully defended her dissertation, "Exploring Chinese Celebrity Fans’ Online Information Behaviors and Understandings of Their Practices," on December 6.

BSIS student Evan Chen discusses his summer internship at State Farm, where he developed an interest in computer vision.

iSchool faculty, staff, and students presented their research at the Society for Social Studies of Science (4S) annual conference, which was held from November 8-11 in Honolulu, Hawaii. The society is an international, nonprofit association that fosters interdisciplinary scholarship in social studies of science, technology, and medicine. 

BSIS student Pablo Quispe discusses his study abroad in Barcelona, Spain, a place he selected because of its rich cultural heritage, world-renowned cuisine, and vibrant social scene. So far, he has enjoyed "every second" of his experience. 

MSIM student Yashas Prashanth discusses his internship at the multinational software company SAP. The experience helped him to better understand the development and management of applications and information systems in an industrial setting.

Seventeen iSchool master's students have been named 2023-2024 Spectrum Scholars by the American Library Association (ALA) Office for Diversity, Literacy, and Outreach Services. This "Spectrum Scholar Spotlight" series highlights the School's scholars. MSLIS student Abigail Deweese earned her bachelor's degree in global studies with a concentration in peace and conflict from Principia College.

BSIS student Zoe Matz discusses her summer internship at PwC, where she gained consulting experience at one of the largest and most prestigious accounting firms in the world.

MSLIS student Elizabeth Ayorinde has been awarded the Helen Jira Scholarship from the Health Science Librarians of Illinois (HSLI). The scholarship provides up to $5,000 towards tuition and/or other educational expenses for students pursuing a master's degree in library and information science. HSLI sponsors and supports activities that promote and develop health science library services in Illinois.

In his research, PhD student Kainen Bell seeks to understand how stakeholders collaborate to prevent the use of surveillance technologies in their communities. Bell was recently awarded a Wikimedia Race and Knowledge Equity Fellowship to support his work in creating resources, documents, and publications that support the efforts of a national anti-surveillance campaign in Brazil (#TireMeuRostoDaSuaMira).

Camilla Stegall, a student in the MSLIS online (Leep) program, discusses her internship with the Theodore Roosevelt Center at Dickinson State University, in which she honed her metadata skills and grew her professional network.
