Join iSchool faculty, staff, and students for the annual conference of the Association for Library and Information Science Education (ALISE), which will take place from October 14-17 in Portland, Oregon. The theme of the 2024 conference is "Ethics and Evolution of Truth and Information."

Liu joins the iSchool faculty

The iSchool is pleased to announce that Yaoyao Liu joined the faculty as an assistant professor on September 5, 2024. He most recently served as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University.

The iSchool is pleased to announce that Yue Guo joined the faculty as an assistant professor on August 16, 2024. She recently completed her PhD in biomedical and health informatics at the University of Washington.

Library Trends examines “Indigenous librarianship” in issue and webinar

The School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is pleased to announce the publication of Library Trends 72 (1). This issue, "Indigenous Librarianship," examines the current state of Indigenous librarianship. Ulia Gosart and Rachel Fu served as guest editors. Library Trends, in partnership with the guest editors and select authors, will host a virtual webinar featuring lightning talks based on articles from the upcoming issue.

iSchool researchers to present at ILA Annual Conference

iSchool faculty, staff, and students will present their research at the 2024 Illinois Library Association (ILA) Annual Conference, which will be held on October 8-10 in Peoria. The theme of this year's conference is "Libraries are Lit: Sparking Innovation and Imagination."

The iSchool is pleased to announce that Kahyun Choi joined the faculty as an assistant professor on August 16, 2024. She most recently served as an assistant professor in the Department of Information and Library Science at Indiana University Bloomington.

iSchool researchers present community engagement research at ESC 2024

iSchool researchers will present their work at the 24th Annual Engagement Scholarship Consortium (ESC) International Conference, which will be held on October 9-10 in Portland, Oregon. The theme of the 2024 conference is "Pathways to Prosperity: Building Sustainable Futures through Community Engagement."

Kemboi receives international award for digital preservation work

PhD student Gladys Kemboi has been awarded the 2024 Digital Preservation Coalition (DPC) Fellowship Award for her distinguished contribution to securing digital legacy to advance local and Indigenous knowledge in development in Kenya and across Africa. She received the award virtually during the DPC's biennial awards ceremony, which took place last month during the International Conference on Digital Preservation (iPRES 2024).

Professor, pioneer in Black studies, Black liberation movements donates papers to Archives

The faculty and personal papers of Gerald McWorter, a University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign professor emeritus of African American studies and of information sciences, show the arc of a freedom narrative, from his ancestors’ founding of New Philadelphia, Illinois — the first U.S. town to be incorporated by a Black man — to McWorter’s scholarly work in Black studies and his activism in the Black liberation movement.

iSchool instructors ranked as excellent

Ten iSchool instructors were named in the University's List of Teachers Ranked as Excellent for Summer 2024. The rankings are released every semester, and results are based on the Instructor and Course Evaluation System (ICES) questionnaire forms maintained by Measurement and Evaluation in the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. Only those instructors who gave out ICES forms during the semester and who released their data for publication are included in the list.
